The Choppers is one of those teen crime exploitation flicks in the 50's and 60's. This one is from 1961 and stars Arch Hall Jr. Arch Hall Sr. wanted to make movies and thought his son would be a perfect teen idol. Unfortunalty Jr. seemed more interested in music, and then later flying. I hear he's a pilot these days for Flying Tiger Airlines and wants to leave the acting biz behind him. Here is The Choppers IMDb entry. The cover they show is clearly wrong. This movie has no helicopters in it. Two years later he starred in The Sadist, shot by Vilmos Zsigmond, probably Arch's greatest effort. He wasn't so much a sadist as just a big jerk who threatened people in a junkyard. I personally prefer The Choppers. It's centers on a group of kids who terrorize stranded cars and "chop" them as if they were pros. Monkey in My Hatband is an entire song Arch and his pal perform during the movie. You would probably not believe how bad that song got stuck in my head. Arch missed his true calling, but he probably is quite content as a pilot. Long Live Arch! |
